Eight Texas patient and consumer advocacy organizations urge Texas lawmakers avoid creating unregulated health coverage that can discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions. Creating “insurance-like” coverage that does not have to follow any state or federal health insurance laws will create unintended consequences that drive up costs for the 28% of Texans with pre-existing conditions and threaten the stability of the Texas health insurance market.
