Policy Areas
Advancing Public Policy for Every Texan.
Social justice requires public policy. We use data-based analysis and strategic communications and advocacy to build engagement ladders that advance key policy changes at the local, state, and federal level. As a multi-issue organization, we are uniquely positioned to make connections across issue silos. As a founder or member of dozens of coalitions, Every Texan is a thought-leader for progressive organizations who are building equity across Texas.
Our bipartisan work is respected throughout the halls of the Capitol because it’s rooted in facts, focused on equity, and powered by community. We know there are common sense solutions and stories in the data that can drive policy change across Texas today.
Health Care
Every Texan advocates for access to quality, affordable health care for every Texan. We work to protect and improve access to high-quality public and private insurance, and a healthcare system that meets the basic health needs of Texans of all backgrounds.
Food Security
Texas is home to the highest number of food insecure people in the U.S. Every Texan proposed policy changes that will help change that. We are dedicated to achieving food security for every Texan.
Education
Texas is proud of its wealth, yet many families lack access to career and college readiness that creates opportunity for every student to enter the workforce and succeed. To increase post-secondary access and success, Texas must build a more durable pipeline across our educational and workforce systems to prepare every Texan for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
Jobs & Financial Security
Too many Texans experience poverty because their work pay is insufficient to raise a family. Every Texan works with policymakers to ensure economic prosperity. Texas public policy must support workers, require employers to pay livable wages, and prioritize health and wellness over profit alone.
Budget & Taxes
We know there’s an abundance of wealth in Texas and plenty of resources to ensure every Texan can thrive. For 40 years, inside the Capitol and across the state, Every Texan has been a leader in the two-front fight for fiscal fairness: more equitable tax policy, and smarter spending with greater investments in education, health care, fair wages, and the job growth all Texans rely on.
Equity & Inequality
Wealth gaps in Texas keep poverty rates high, especially when policies fail to provide Texans who are trapped in poverty the basic resources they need. Our public policies must build structural equity across our state, guaranteeing equitable access to services and opportunity that ensure Texans of all backgrounds achieve financial security and success.
Our Policy Roadmap
For a just and equitable Texas

Reduce costly red tape barriers to benefits like Medicaid and CHIP.
Restore state-funded grants for outreach and local enrollment assistance.
Establish a legislative Directive for agency-led language access plan.
Preserve the collection of and access to Texas health data.
Every Texan is worth access to healthy and healthy food.
Remove harmful barriers to food assistance by expanding SNAP certification for 12 months to reduce the number of applications the state reviews.
Improve access to school meals and ensure Texas kids have access to food when schools are closed for the summer.

Ensure paid parental leave and access to child care for all workers.
Increase wages for state workers through regular salary increases that are tied to inflation.
Stop wage theft and worker misclassification.
Expand collective bargaining to public sector workers, including educators.
Every Texan is adequately supported by an equitable tax system.
Make the property tax system more fair and offer more substantial assistance to renters.
