At the Texas Legislature

During the 89th Legislative Session, Every Texan provided trusted, independent policy research and analysis to state leaders, advocates, and stakeholders, ensuring they were equipped to make informed policy choices for Texans across the state.

This session was marked by uncertainty and the passage of regressive legislation. When policies were proposed to defund programs with already insufficient resources, Every Texan stepped in to preserve the limited support Texans currently rely on. Every Texan worked deeply in coalition, across communities, and at the Capitol to hold the line and defend the rights and dignity of all Texans. This session presented numerous threats to democracy, and we count our defensive work as a meaningful and vital victory for Texas.

Our legislative expertise is unique. With a comprehensive view of the policy landscape in Texas, we made strategic recommendations that considered how state policies intersect in Texas communities. Our broad perspective drove change on the ground—protecting local control, expanding access to services, and ensuring public dollars are invested where they matter most. 

The 89th Session saw policy proposals reach new levels of blatant overreach and attempted suppression. Every Texan fought alongside legislators who responded to extremism with a clear message: enough is enough.
