CPPP Welcomes Garrett Groves as Program Director for Economic Opportunity

Last week Garrett Groves joined CPPP as the new Program Director for Economic Opportunity, and he had a pretty interesting first day on the job. There were no usual day one activities, such as setting up voicemail. Instead, Garrett made his debut by leading an immensely successful session at the Hobby Policy Summit focused on connecting education and workforce development. We can’t guarantee every day will be as exciting as that, but we’re thrilled to have Garrett on board.
Garrett shares CPPP’s vision for a Texas that offers everyone the chance to compete and succeed in life, and I have no doubt he will continue the strong legacy of our Economic Opportunity team, from expanding access to good jobs to helping families save for the future.
Garrett has over ten years of experience in public policy, with a focus on education, workforce and economic development. He was formerly a Senior Policy Analyst at the National Governors Association, where he spearheaded a number of multi-state governors’ initiatives on education and training for tomorrow’s jobs. Garrett previously worked for the U.S. Department of Labor, where he managed $25 million in federal funded research on workforce investment.
“I am thrilled to join such a respected organization that has done so much to support and expand economic opportunity in Texas,” said Garrett. “I look forward to advancing that strong tradition by focusing on the critical economic needs of every Texan, such as improving access to a high quality education, a good job and a growing savings account.”
Garrett is a graduate of the LBJ School of Public Affairs in Austin. He also holds a masters’ degree in counseling psychology, and he has provided psychotherapy and career counseling. He previously led a counseling support team in a wilderness survival program for at-risk youth. Garrett grew up on a farm in western Colorado.
