Every Texan strongly supports HB 133 by Rose as it directs the Health and Human Services Commission to provide women in Pregnant Women’s Medicaid comprehensive Medicaid coverage for 12 months postpartum. Currently, Texas provides full-benefit Medicaid coverage to women during their pregnancy if their income is below 198% of the federal poverty guidelines and they meet citizenship/immigration requirements. Federal statute requires states to provide 2 months of Medicaid coverage to women after the end of their pregnancy. Texas is one of only a few states that does not provide a comprehensive Medicaid option to low-income women beyond the required two months.
