The final deadline to sign up for coverage is almost here. Consumers have to sign up for 2016 coverage by January 31, 2016. Here are a few fast facts about getting covered through HealthCare.gov:
- It’s not as expensive as you think. So far, 8 out of 10 Texans who enrolled in a health plan were eligible for financial help. In fact, most people can find a health insurance plan for as little as $100 or less per month.
- It is the law, the January 31 deadline may be the last chance for consumers to sign up for coverage and avoid the penalty on their taxes of $695 or more next year. For some, the tax penalty would be more expensive than just buying a basic bronze plan.
- Free help is available! To find local help signing up for enrollment consumers can go to Healthcare.gov/local-help or they can schedule an appointment online at www.getcoveredamerica.org/connector. Trained enrollment specialists will provide free, personal help and share other important advice, including how to qualify for financial help, how to start an application, or how to re-enroll.
